HVAC Installer job duties include:
- Read blueprints or instructions from supervisors to determine the layout of ductwork
- Cut and shape ductwork, using power saws and sheet metal shears, following specifications
- Connect ductwork sections, using screws, bolts, clamps, rivets, solder, welding equipment, or sealants
- Install dampers and louvers to regulate air flow
- Install vents and cold air returns
- Hang furnace units from structural supports or fasten them to walls or ceilings using brackets and hangers
- Connect furnaces to fuel and water supply lines, gas meters, and regulators using pipes and fittings
- Attach motors to blowers and position blowers in ductwork systems.
- Start up systems to test their performance
HVAC Installer Job Requirements
An HVAC Installer typically needs a high school diploma or equivalent, although some jobs may require postsecondary education, and must complete a formal apprenticeship or training program.
